Medtronic Guardian Sensor
Medtronic 670g pump uses the the medtronic Guardian sensor. This sensor is designed by medtronic for use with their pump systems. It can be worn for 7 days and requires twice a day calibrations. The Guardian sensor has a self diagnostic feature that will ask the patient for a blood sugar reading if the sensor feels that it is starting to veer off. The guardian sensor works with the 670g pump to automatically deliver insulin to keep sugars targeted to 120mg/dl. There is a new guardian connect ap that allows patients to view their blood sugar readings on their phone.
DEXCOM G6 Sensor
The DEXCOM sensor is a stand alone sensor that reads to an ap on your phone or to the receiver that comes with it. In addition it can link to the Tandem T:slim X2 pump and can be used with their predictive low feature to suspend insulin. This sensor is also available to be worn by those who are not interested in using a pump and prefer injections. This sensor is worn for 10 days and does not require calibrations.
Freestyle Libre System
The Freestyle libre system is another free standing CGM. This device does not read continuously but instead requires the patient to touch the receiver against the sensor and then see the readout on the receiver. The wear is for 14 days and does not require any calibrations. Each reading will show an arrow and a tracing line, but this is only visible when the sensor is read by the receiver.
Eversense Implantable CGM
The Eversense Continuous Glucose monitor is the first implantable continuous glucose monitoring system.
